ABTune is a free, open-source music quiz at abtune.com, run by David (github.com/mrdushidush). This page covers the site and ABTune's accounts on X, Instagram and TikTok: what they collect, why, and for how long.
In short: no accounts, no cookies, no tracking IDs. Your answers stay in your browser. The site counts events such as "a quiz was finished" as plain numbers, public for anyone to see, and nothing the server stores says who you are.
Your answers stay in your browser
The quiz runs in your browser. It keeps your quiz, your settings and your ๐/๐ votes in your browser's local storage, on your device only. Clearing this site's data in your browser deletes all of it.
| Key | What it holds |
|---|---|
abtune.app.v1 | Your quiz: the answers, your settings, and the changes you made to your result. |
abtune.feedback.v1 | Your ๐/๐ on playlists (the last 500). |
abtune.counted | Which quizzes, shared links and daily visits were already counted, so a reload isn't counted twice (the last 50). |
abtune.via | The source tag of the ABTune link you came from (x, ig or tt) and when, for 7 days. |
abtune.via.quiz | The tag your current quiz started with. |
What the server gets
- To pick songs: your taste profile, a few dozen numbers worked out from your answers, never the answers themselves. With it go a random seed, the playlist's length, version numbers and, when you ask for more songs or swap one, the songs already on your list. The server builds the playlist, sends it back and keeps none of it.
-
Share links carry the same profile after the
#in the address, which browsers don't send to servers. Opening one sends the server the profile, as above. - Your IP address, which every website sees. It is used for one thing: limiting how fast one visitor can ask for playlists (20 a minute) and send counts (30 a minute). It is held in memory only, forgotten within about two minutes of your last request, and never written down.
- No request logs. The web server writes down no addresses, and the app logs only its own start-up and errors.
- No cookies, and nothing from other companies: no analytics, ads, fonts or scripts. The site's Content Security Policy only lets a page load files from abtune.com.
- abtune.com runs on a virtual server rented from Hostinger. Its HTTPS certificates come from Let's Encrypt.
The counts
When you start or finish a quiz, share, export, or hand a playlist to a music app, your browser
sends the server only the event's name, such as quiz_done. The server adds one to
that day's count and, for the counts that carry a source tag, to that hour's too. The server
also counts the playlists it builds and the visits through its short links abtune.com/x, /ig
and /tt. For a short link it reads two request headers, Sec-Fetch-Mode and
User-Agent, to tell a person from an app fetching a link preview, and keeps
neither.
A source tag only says which of ABTune's own accounts a link came from; links from anywhere else carry none. The counts are public at abtune.com/api/stats. They hold no personal data, so there is nothing in them to look up or delete for one person. Every name that can be counted:
- Quizzes:
quiz_start,quiz_done,ten_more("Answer 10 more"). - Sharing:
shared_open,share_link,share_image. -
Exports and music apps:
export_m3u,export_csv,export_xspf,export_json,handoff_spotify,handoff_apple_music,handoff_youtube_music. -
Source tags, per day and per hour:
via_x_open,via_ig_open,via_tt_open,quiz_start_via_x,quiz_start_via_ig,quiz_start_via_tt,quiz_done_via_x,quiz_done_via_ig,quiz_done_via_tt,shortlink_x,shortlink_ig,shortlink_tt. - Counted by the server:
playlist_built.
Links that leave ABTune
- "Add to your music app" opens TuneMyMusic in a new tab. ABTune sends it nothing: you paste the song list there yourself.
- A song's links search YouTube or Spotify for it, and its MusicBrainz link opens the song's page. Those sites see your visit like any link you open.
- Sharing hands the link or the picture to the app you pick on your device.
ABTune's social accounts
ABTune's accounts on X, Instagram and TikTok are run by David with an automated assistant that drafts and posts within limits set in its code. They are labeled as automated where the platform offers a label, and every automated reply ends with "(ABTune automated reply)".
- To answer, the assistant reads comments on ABTune's posts and posts that mention ABTune, through the platform's official API. It keeps each one's text, the author's public username and its own reply, and deletes them within 90 days, backups included.
- To draft a reply, it sends the comment's text to Anthropic's API (the Claude model). Anthropic's privacy policy covers how Anthropic handles it. A reply the assistant isn't sure about waits for David's OK and reaches David through Telegram.
- It also reads the numbers the platforms report about ABTune's own posts (views, likes, profile visits), which name no one. It never messages anyone first and collects nothing else about anyone.
- On TikTok, David posts by hand, and nothing automated reads the comments.
- The platforms' own privacy policies cover what they do with your activity there.
Your choices

Other copies of ABTune
ABTune is open source, so anyone can run a copy. This page describes abtune.com and ABTune's own accounts. A copy at another address is run by someone else, under their rules.
